Utt Middle School Launches Femineers Program
At Utt Middle School, creativity, problem solving, and engineering come together in the Femineer Program.
The mission of the Femineer Program is “to inspire additional females to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) in their education and career.” Created by Cal Poly, Pomona, the Femineer Program introduces middle- and high-school students computer science and engineering in a fun, creative, and project-based way.
This year, new Utt Femineers are participating in a Creative Robotics curriculum, where students build and program a robot of their own design. Using Hummingbird Robotics Kits, Femineers learn to code using the Scratch programming language, and use various sensors, motors, and LED lights to control and operate their robots. Returning Femineers will complete a new curriculum focused on Wearable Technology. Students will learn to return to Cal Poly, Pomona for the Femineers Summit, where they will showcase their robotic and wearable creations. We can’t wait to see what our Femineers can do!
Three cheers for the Femineers!
