Principal Sharon Maeda has worked in education for 23 years. She currently serves as Principal and also is an instructor for the California State University of Fullerton. Prior to serving as TMA's Principal, Sharon was the GATE Program Coordinator and New Teacher Induction administrator in Tustin Unified School District. Prior to TUSD, she worked in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Education as the State's main consultant to gifted programs and districts throughout the state. She simultaneously worked for Houghton Mifflin Company delivering Professional Development to teachers and administrators nationwide.
Sharon began her career as a teacher and district coordinator in the Anaheim City School District where she was awarded the district’s Golden Apple Award and District Teacher of the Year Award. She was an Orange County Teacher of the Year nominee, and was nominee for the Disney American Teacher Award.
As coordinator of TUSD’s GATE program, she handled testing and screening for GATE students and provided GATE certification training for teachers. She established a GATE Parent Institute and provided ongoing parent trainings and seminars, including a GATE Parent Symposium and Community Advisory Committee.
Among her honors, Sharon received the California Association for the Gifted (CAG) Distinguished Service Award for Orange County in 2012. She was recognized for demonstrating outstanding qualities of professional achievement through her commitment and service to gifted students and communities. She continues to serve on the Board of Directors for the Orange County Council for Gifted Education Organization. (OCC GATE)
