Participation in athletics and activities at Tustin High School requires a yearly, one-time transportation fee of $150.00 for the 2020-2021 school year.
Payment of this fee is important for the continued operation of high school athletics and activities. This fee pays for bus transportation to and from sporting events and extra-curricular activities. Bus transportation is a fixed cost. Failure to pay this transportation fee results in shortfalls that will impact these programs financially.
Per Tustin Unified School District’s Educational Services: “The Constitution of the State of California requires that we provide a public education to students, free of charge. A student’s right to a free education is for all school/educational activities, whether curricular or extra-curricular, and whether a student gets a grade for the activity or class. Subject to certain exceptions, a student’s right to a free public education means that we cannot require you or your student to purchase materials, supplies, equipment or uniforms for any school activity, nor can we require you or your student to pay security deposits for access, participation, materials or equipment. Your school may require students to attend a fundraising event; however, if they are unable to raise funds for the event, we cannot prevent students from participating in an educational activity.”
One of these exceptions is: “Fees for field trips and excursions in connection with courses of instruction or school related social, educational, cultural, athletic, or school band activities, as long as no student is prevented from making the field trip or excursion because of lack of sufficient funds.”
The Transportation Fee of $150.00 is due when submitting the completed Athletics Clearance Packet. Students/parents may request a payment plan. If you are requesting a payment plan, please email Lisa Garcia, ASB Account Clerk, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Checks should be made out to: Tustin High School. Cash and credit card payments can be made at the Tustin High School Student Store during the regular business hours of 7:00am-3:00pm. Please check in at the Front Office to receive a visitor pass. If you are requesting an athletics transportation fee refund, please be advised that the Student Store will be closed from June 1 st through August 1 st. Fees not processed before June 1st will be processed after August 1st . All reimbursements take 3-4 weeks to process. **Important Additional Clarification for Seniors: Outstanding balances not paid in full will prohibit seniors from purchasing tickets and participating in senior activities scheduled in April and May. In order to attend Prom and Grad Nite, this fee must be paid in full by 2:00 p.m. on the day of each event that the student is planning to attend.
