It is with great excitement that we announce Mr. Julio Alonso, the lead custodian at Tustin Memorial Academy (TMA), has been selected as the 2022 Classified Employee of the Year by the Tustin Unified School District.
TUSD Superintendent Dr. Mark Johnson announced today, May 2, 2022, at TMA. He was joined by TUSD Board of Education Member Jonathan Stone, TMA Principal Brooke Carreras, District Office administrators, and representatives from the Tustin Public Schools Foundation. The surprise visit was made even more special because the entire school community came out to surprise Julio.
“Mr. Alonso is absolutely remarkable! He truly exemplifies the spirit and dedication of being an amazing TUSD employee, Superintendent Dr. Mark Johnson said. “Classified Employees are the backbone of our District, and provide so many of the support services needed to run our district and our schools. We are thrilled to honor Mr. Alonso for his ongoing contributions to the students, staff and community at TMA!”.
Julio is being recognized for his consistent and caring leadership in the service of the students and staff at TMA. Julio’s dedication and hard work can be witnessed each day as he supports students and staff at TMA. Julio can be seen each morning greeting students and families during drop off, opening car doors, supporting staff needs throughout the day, and going above and beyond to provide a learning environment that students and staff can be proud of. Beyond the typical responsibilities of maintaining the physical aspects of the TMA campus, Julio takes the time to build vital relationships with everyone at the school. Staff at TMA shared that Julio treats the school like his home and everyone on campus as his family.
“You cannot pass Julio in the hallway without him asking how things are going,” TMA Principal Carreras said. “He truly cares and is genuinely interested in how everyone is doing and if he can help them in any way.”
Julio can often be seen playing handball or soccer with students during his breaks, tending to something around campus, or doing something to make the day special for students and staff at TMA.
The 25th annual awards program recognizes classified or support services employees whose contributions to TUSD have proven outstanding. The award is given to a classified employee who provides valuable services to schools and staff, contributes to a positive instructional environment, and exceeds their job requirements. Julio will also represent Tustin Unified in the Orange County Classified School Employees of the Year Program, sponsored by the Orange County Department of Education. All TUSD Classified Employees of the Year will be honored at a reception on May 16, 2022, at 4:30 PM in the District courtyard.

TUSD selecciona al empleado clasificado del año 2022
Es con gran emoción que anunciamos que el Sr. Julio Alonso, el conserje principal de Tustin Memorial Academy (TMA), ha sido seleccionado como el Empleado Clasificado del Año 2022 por el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Tustin.
El Superintendente de TUSD, el Dr. Mark Johnson, anunció hoy, 2 de mayo de 2022, en TMA. Él fue acompañado por el miembro de la Junta de Educación de TUSD Jonathan Stone, la directora de TMA Brooke Carreras, los administradores de la Oficina del Distrito, y los representantes de la Fundación de las Escuelas Públicas de Tustin. La visita sorpresa se hizo aún más especial porque toda la comunidad escolar salió a sorprender a Julio.
"El Sr. Alonso es absolutamente extraordinario. Él realmente es un ejemplo del espíritu y la dedicación de ser un excelente empleado de TUSD, dijo el Superintendente Dr. Mark Johnson. Se puede ver a Julio cada mañana saludando a los estudiantes y a las familias durante la llegada, abriendo las puertas de los carros, apoyando las necesidades del personal a lo largo del día, y haciendo todo lo posible para proporcionar un ambiente de aprendizaje del que los estudiantes y el personal puedan estar orgullosos. Además de las responsabilidades típicas de mantener los aspectos físicos del plantel escolar de TMA, Julio se toma el tiempo para construir relaciones vitales con todos en la escuela. El personal de TMA afirma que Julio trata a la escuela como a su casa y a todos los miembros de la escuela como a su familia.
"No puedes encontrarte con Julio en el pasillo sin que te pregunte cómo van las cosas", dijo el Sr. Carreras, director de TMA. " Él realmente se preocupa y está sinceramente interesado en cómo le va a todo el mundo y si puede ayudarles de alguna manera".
A menudo se puede ver a Julio jugando al balonmano o al fútbol con los estudiantes durante sus descansos, ocupándose de algo en la escuela o haciendo algo para que el día sea especial para los estudiantes y el personal de TMA.
