TUSD Chief Financial Officer Anthony Soria Announces Retirement

It is with mixed emotions we announce the retirement of Mr. Anthony Soria, effective December 21, 2022.  Mr. Soria has served in public education for more than 32 years.  He joined Tustin Unified School District in 2001 as the Director, Business Services and was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in 2007.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in TUSD and am grateful to our Board of Education, past and present superintendents, Executive Cabinet members, management team, Business Services staff and my wonderful family for their support over the years,” explained Mr. Soria.  “Tustin Unified is a special place and I will miss the employees, families and community.”

As Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Soria oversees accounting, facilities, fiscal services and nutrition services, maintenance and operations, payroll, purchasing and supplies, transportation and the District warehouse.  Under his leadership, the District has enjoyed much success.  Mr. Soria has built a strong team within Business Services.  Their collaborative efforts have ensured fiscal strength for the District.  In addition, when faced with challenging economic times, Mr. Soria and the Business Services team have worked to avoid reductions in staff where possible.

Furthermore, Mr. Soria oversaw construction of Heritage Elementary School, Legacy Magnet Academy and several modernization projects, including the addition of a new classroom building at Robert Heideman Elementary and Beckman, Foothill and Tustin High Schools.  He fostered a healthy relationship with other public agencies, aiding in the successful completion of these projects for the benefit of the TUSD community.

Throughout his tenure with the District, Mr. Soria has been a consistent figure amongst numerous changes. His input throughout the negotiations process has always been appreciated as he worked with staff to find a mutually agreeable resolution.

“Anthony Soria is a dedicated and knowledgeable District leader who has done incredible work to guide the financial efforts of TUSD,” noted Superintendent Dr. Mark Johnson. “His valuable contributions to our community will be enjoyed for generations to come and he will be greatly missed.”
