Students from Foothill High School (FHS) and Tustin High School (THS) competed in the UCI Energy Invitational on Saturday, May 7, 2022. Teams competed by racing their self-built electric cars in four separate heats consisting of 10 laps each. Each heat had to be completed in under 15 minutes and could only use about $0.33 of energy.
Two separate Foothill High School teams finished with first and third place wins. Tustin High School placed fourth. Out of 11 high school teams, Tustin Unified School District took home a first, third, and fourth-place finish!
For the past ten years, FHS and THS have consistently placed at the top due largely to the comprehensive nature of our engineering programs. TUSD students take full advantage of world-class tools and passionate instructors with real-world engineering experience to bring designs to life, beginning with a concept, then design and fabrication. The competitive nature of the UCI Energy Invitational engages students in relevant real-world applications using many of the lessons students have learned in the classroom.
