Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year!

Getting Ready for School

To assist your family's school preparations, we ask that you carefully consider the following information from the principal that can be found on the OH website under About Our School. This webpage contains information about school communication, lunch programs, traveling to school, dress code, lockers for middle school, etc.

Getting To and From School

For the safety of all Orchard Hills' staff and students, please follow the traffic pattern, obey all posted signs and traffic laws, and keep an eye open for pedestrians. Students may walk, ride their bikes or skateboards to school, but are reminded that they must wear a helmet. Bicycles and skateboards must be walked on school property. Bike racks are located near the gym behind the MPR (middle school students) and in front of the elementary classrooms. Students are responsible for locking their bicycles/skateboards. Please visit the OH website HERE to find the link to Suggested Routes to OH compiled by Irvine PD.

Parking Reminder
Please review our PARKING LOT INFORMATION, which includes details about traffic flow patterns, before school begins. Parking is very limited for visitors. Park ONLY IN UNMARKED parking spaces in the front parking lot (not in STAFF spaces). Do NOT park along any RED painted fire curb as you will be blocking people who are legally parked in the lot. All families are encouraged to use the drive through drop-off and pick-up zones.
  • On the first day of school between 7:30-9:00am and 2:00-3:00pm there will be a PARKING VARIANCE.
    • The PARKING VARIANCE allows for parking as follows:
      • On CULVER from FURROWS to LIGHT POLE WITH SPEED LIMIT SIGN (SCHOOL SIDE ONLY)
      • PAST the SECOND DRIVEWAY to school (NOT IN BETWEEN) to the BROKEN LINES for the turn lane before SETTLERS.
    • Please not that Except for the area covered in the variance above there is no parking along other sections of Culver, Settlers or other nearby streets with posted no parking signs.
    • Additionally, Irvine PD has installed "No Stopping" signs along Settlers. Parents are not allowed to be dropping off or picking up their students along this street. The Irvine Police Department is typically present and will give tickets and citations as needed.
On the first day of school, give yourself extra time or plan to carpool since there will be more cars than usual on that day. Once you have arrived, please follow the directions of the parking supervisors.

PLEASE NOTE that there are two ways to enter the parking lot. One is by turning left into the lot from the left turn lane on Culver as you approach the school. The second is making a U-Turn at the top of the hill and making a right turn into the lot as you come down (if you are going down the hill and plan to use the drop-off lane indicated in orange and green on the traffic flow map, use the first driveway as you come down the hill and wait in the line). Please be courteous to other drivers and let one car turn from the left and right alternately so the traffic moves smoothly.

  • Right hand turn into the lot- You must remain in the right hand lane and proceed around the gym for drop-off.
  • Left hand turn into the lot- You must turn into the left hand entrance lane and proceed to the front of the school to drop off your student in front of the school.
To ensure the safety of your student at OH, please have PATIENCE during drop-off and pick-up.

Kindergarten Permit Parking
There are kindergarten parking spots labeled for Kinder Parents Only! Kinder parents must have their parking permit clearly visible. Cars without permits will be given citations, if parked illegally.

First Day of School - Kinder and Elementary
Parents of incoming kinder and elementary students will have their classrooms posted (by their student number) after 4:30pm on August 13th on the kindergarten gate. Their student numbers can be found in the Aeries Parent Portal. Please be sure to have their number as the office will not be open. You can match the teachers' names to their classrooms on the school map located HERE. Students should line up in front of their classrooms. Teachers will have their names posted.

Middle School - Class Schedules
The Aeries portal will be accessible for middle school students to view their tentative schedules on the evening of Monday, August 13. Please remind your student that the schedule may change as we continue to balance classes and enroll new students. Therefore, please read the instructions below carefully and make sure students are aware that they need to locate their first period classes on the lists posted around campus on Tuesday morning. Schedules may change between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

Upon arriving at school on Tuesday, August 14, all middle school students will need to pay attention to the lists posted on the cafeteria windows and leading into the middle school quad to identify their first period class.

Please make sure your student is aware of his/her permanent id (the permanent id number is listed on the student's id card). The lists are sorted by grade-level and permanent id number. Students will receive their id cards with permanent id during registration on Monday, August 13.

Students will report to their first period class on the first day of school and the first period teachers will distribute each student's complete schedule.

What to Bring on First Day
On the first day of school, it is suggested that middle school students bring a notebook, folder and a pen/pencil to their classes. Teachers will be handing out a syllabus specific to their classes which will detail out supplies that will be needed. Students do not need to bring their PE clothes the first day. PE teachers will notify them when they need to start bringing those to school. For additional supply needs, please review our School Supply Lists HERE.

Schedule Change Form - Middle School Only
If you find an error with your child's schedule, please complete a "Schedule Change Request" form located on our website HERE. We will not make schedule changes to reflect teacher preferences. E-mails or phone calls will not be accepted for schedule change requests. Upon completing the Schedule Change Request form, please submit it to the front office. The deadline to submit all schedule change request forms to the office is August 21.
  • Please note, several elective classes are already full or at capacity. The following elective classes are open at this time: Art, AVID, Home Ec. and Spanish 1A.
