Parents and Community

Parents serve as a very important part of an elementary school's community. Whether you assist with classroom learning groups, support our fundraising efforts with your time or financial contributions, participate in a PTO meeting, shelve library books, assist with recess or morning supervision, decorate teacher banners, chaperone a field trip, make copies for teachers, paint props for a variety show, serve non a committee, help your child with homework and organization or plan a class party, you make a difference! It is definitely the strength of our combined efforts that builds the kind of learning community which will have a lasting impact on all of our students for years to come.

COMMUNICATION

A weekly email newsletter, Cougar News, is produced by Loma Vista's PTO. Some paper flyers are sent home in student backpacks, but the best way to stay informed is to read the emailed newsletter.

To be sure you receive information about Loma Vista news and activities, click HERE to add your email address to the distribution list, or send an email to lomavistanewsletter@gmail.com

Each teacher will let you know the best way to contact him/her. Usually email is an effective way to start communication with a teacher. Teachers do not take phone calls during school hours.

If you are not sure how to contact the right person, call the school office.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission as a non-profit Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is to enrich the experience of students at Loma Vista Elementary School. We accomplish this through fostering partnerships with parents, teachers, staff and administration.

We work to increase parent involvement to cultivate a strong sense of community. We support an environment that fosters respect, tolerance and compassion, and welcomes the benefits of our diversity.

We provide resources to the school to complement curriculum with additional opportunities to learn, socialize, communicate and grow.

We connect parents with opportunities to volunteer, to be involved in school life, and to enjoy fun, quality time with their children.

  • We accomplish these goals by:
  • facilitating open and positive communication between parents, teachers, and administration
  • welcoming and involving families and working together in a cooperative spirit
  • volunteering our time and talents to meet school needs
  • sponsoring and organizing fundraising and social events which deepen our strong sense of community and allow us to financially support the school.

The first time you shop at AmazonSmile, go to “your account” and select “Tustin Loma Vista Parent Teacher Organization” as your charity. From then on, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to Loma Vista.

Shop with SCRIP image

Buy SCRIP

Every month during the school year you will receive a SCRIP order form. You can buy retail gift cards to pay for everyday purchases (like gas and groceries) or to use as gifts. You pay face value for the cards and the SCRIP program credits YOUR STUDENT’s 5th Grade Outdoor Science School (OSS) account with a % of your gift card amount. Through SCRIP, the PTO helps you fundraise for yourself. Each year 5th grade parents pay $300 - $450 for their student to attend OSS. Use SCRIP to save up instead of writing this big check in 5th grade. For more information visit www.shopwithscrip.com
