My name is Katherinne Chavez A.K.A Mrs. Kathy! I’ve been working for the Tustin school district since 2015, but have been working with children since 2008. I received my ROP certificate in Early Childhood Education and began to work in the Yuba City Unified School District in Northern California as a teacher in the After-School Program. I then became the Attendance Clerk for two years at an elementary school before moving to Orange County. I started as a part-time interpreter for Tustin Unified District and then became the Community Liaison for Hillview High School and recently accepted the position of Office Assistant/Health clerk also here at Hillview High. I plan to attend Santa Ana College in the fall and transfer to a university to graduate with a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.
I’ve been working for the Tustin Unified School District since 2006. I was first hired as an office Assistant for the Nutrition Services Dept where I processed over 4,000 Free and Reduced Lunch applications. I then re-located to Riverside County for a year and a half and left Tustin District. After that I ended up relocating back to Orange County because moving out there was not a good idea. After my return I was hired as a Nutrition Assistant, serving students lunches where I worked there for about 6 years. In Spring of 2016 I was hired as an Office Assistant for Adult ED which I enjoyed a lot and met a lot of great people. Winter of 2017 came and I became a Community Liaison for Hillview High School. I really enjoy working between the Students, Parents and Community I feel grateful to work with such a great team.
“I started working for Tustin Unified School District in September of 2016 as a Campus Supervisor. I also work for the Superior Court of Orange County as a Custodian. I enjoy watching Boxing, football and Baseball. I plan on continuing my education in Criminal Justice to become a Probation Officer.”
It has been a privilege for my husband, Bill, and myself to live in Tustin and to have raised our two daughters within TUSD. I spent my earliest years in the mid-west, and have mainly lived in Orange County since 1962, attending public schools in Orange, California. I attended Covenant Bible College in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada ( a one year certificate program), and later worked as Dean of Women there for two years. I graduated from North Park College, Chicago, Illinois in the bi-centennial year, 1976, with a K-8 teaching credential and a BA in Social Studies. A number of other work experiences include fifteen years of insurance claims as an adjuster and supervisor, teaching pre-school while my children were young, and presently finishing my eighth year at Hillview High School as a paraeducator/ RSP aide. My passion is good literature and reading, and I enjoy helping our students become better readers and writers.
I have been at Hillview High School for three years. Prior to coming to Hillview I worked 10 years at the District Office, all in Maintenance and Operations. The opening at the Hillview site was one of many accomplishments that I’ve enjoyed. Another is managing our Student Recycling Program, a program where the students give back to the school. I am honored to be a four time recipient of our District’s Employee of the Year. My hobbies are photography, traveling and spending time with my family. My passion for photography allows me to create memories for our students whether it be photography, lunchtime sports, Hawk Pride Award, Soroptimist and Rotary Club recipient, senior class picture, graduation photos and our senior cap and gown portraits.I am thankful to work with such a great staff and students at Hillview.
I attended Orange Coast community College after I graduated from high school. My start in the field of education began by accepting a position as a Campus Supervisor for the Garden Grove Unified School District. I was assigned to a large high school campus for 12 years. The experience and knowledge I gained from that position lead me to Tustin Unified. I have worked at Hillview High School for 7 years as a Campus Supervisor. I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to work for Mr. O’Donoghue and the wonderful Hillview staff and student body. In my spare time I enjoy traveling and taking road trips. My biggest joy in life is spending time with my family and my beautiful children and grandchildren.
