Getting to Know Mr. Chavarria

What college did you attend?

I attended Azusa Pacific University as a Math major. After my first semester, I changed my major to Liberal Studies. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in 2012. For my graduate degree I began pursuing my Education Specialist Mild/Mod Teaching Credential and Master’s Degree in Digital Teaching and Learning. I graduated with my master’s and credential this past May.

What is your experience as a teacher?

I began teaching at a non public school called Beach Cities Learning Center in 2013. The school was located in Palos Verdes, CA. The students I worked with were in high school and the subjects I taught were History, English, PE, Life Skills, and the elective courses that were being offered at that time. Once I left there, I began substitute teaching for the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District for a year and a half, prior to my wife and I moving to Orange County. In January of 2019, I began substitute teaching for all the surrounding school districts. I really enjoyed my opportunities substitute teaching in Tustin Unified. I was a long term substitute teacher at Myford Elementary. When I became eligible to apply for teaching positions, I was hoping to receive an opportunity with Tustin Unified School District. I am very happy to be here at Guin Foss!

What is your favorite subject in school?

While I was attending elementary and all the way up to high school, I really enjoyed Math. However, since I began teaching, I really enjoy History.

Who is your favorite scholar?

The scholars I impact everyday are my favorites.

What are some of your hobbies?

Spending time with my family is my most important hobby.

I love watching sports, mainly football (L.A. Rams and SC Trojans), basketball (Lakers), baseball (Dodgers), and soccer (Chelsea). I also enjoy coaching football as well. My goal would be able to coach at a high school around this area someday.

I also, enjoy playing video games and board games. My favorite game overall is Monopoly.

Lastly, singing is another hobby that I have. Once I get settled in here at Guin Foss, you will hear me singing in the halls.

What is an interesting fact about you that most people don't know?

An interesting fact about me relates to my favorite board game, Monopoly. I own about 25 different Monopoly editions that have been created, and have never been opened.

Another interesting fact is that my wife and I were on the game show Minute it to Win it.
