Friday Facts

October-November 2022

HALLOWEEN

We will have a morning parade on October 31 and parents are invited to join us! Students are invited to dress up in school-appropriate costumes and will be expected to change into regular school clothes after the parade. No scary, gory, or revealing costumes allowed. No make-up. No toy weapons. It is also a spirit day so students can wear their favorite Halloween-themed regular clothes after the parade.

If you do not want your child to participate in the parade, a room will be made available for them.

Parents will be expected to sign in at the office, wear their orange or green lanyard or Visitor Sticker, and head directly to the yard (not the classrooms). Students will be forming a large circle/oval on the yard and parents will be allowed in the center OR behind the chairs once students get set up.

ENTREPRENEUR FAIR

Start thinking of your entrepreneurial ideas!  We will be holding our 4th Annual Entrepreneur Fair this December.  Students will need to submit an application AND provide a sample of the product they would like to sell.  More information to come.

What is the Entrepreneur Fair?
Students create a unique item that must be approved by Dr. Fairchild (early November).  Products can be anything they make and design themselves.  Some past products include:  bracelets, slime, crocheted animals, magnets, hair bows, bath bombs, origami toys, succulent holders, comic books, bookmarks, and more! Items must be “sell-ready” - done well and packaged for display.

Once the product is approved (early November), students will have several weeks to make enough to sell at the Entrepreneur Fair.  They will need to consider the price of the product with their parents, and all products must be between 50¢ and $4.

All students will be able to purchase tickets in 50¢ increments to buy products at the Entrepreneur Fair in December.  Students will only handle tickets; cash is converted at the office and parents will pick up the proceeds the following week.  The Entrepreneur Fair is held during lunch.

Entrepreneurs will consider their sample item a donation.  In addition, 10% of their sales will be donated to a local charity.

SOCIAL THINKING CURRICULUM GROUP PLAN

We have started using components of a Social Thinking Curriculum that teaches students how to make sense of the world around them and how the social world works.  Social Thinking language teaches students how to navigate their social world.

Our counselor Ms. Hoang and our PBSS (Positive Behavior Systems of Support) Aide, Mr. Hobby, led students through the first of our Social Thinking Language lesson:  Following the Group Plan.  You can help by reinforcing these concepts at home.

The Group Plan:
Concept:  When everyone is thinking about and doing the same thing, it is called the group plan.
Why is it Important:  When we are part of a group, it is important to know what is expected and to think about each other.  When we follow the group plan, everyone feels calm ad comfortable.  When people follow their own plan, others have uncomfortable thoughts and feelings.

Phrases to use to support the Group Plan:
Are you following the group plan or your own plan?
What’s the group plan right now?

UNIFORM

Don’t forget that Myford is a uniform school and students are expected to be in uniforms or Myford SpiritWear Mondays-Thursdays. Friday is a Free-Dress Day and we have lots of other Spirit Days throughout the year. Students who are not in uniform may be offered loaner clothes from the office.
