Are you interested in becoming a National Honor Society member?

National Honor Society is a prestigious nationally recognized club built on the pillars of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. National Honor Society members build upon these pillars through their work doing outside service projects, as well as projects completed as a club.

Some recent NHS group projects have included tutoring Foothill students after school, sorting food for Second Harvest Food Bank, running activities at the Santa Ana Zoo's "Boo at the Zoo" Halloween event, cleaning the beach with the Surfrider Foundation, and participating in activities at the Blind Children's Center. Membership for National Honor Society is based on the requirements outlined below.  Applications are available during club rush or in Rm. 202 each August/September.

Please visit the National Honor Society website for more information about the national organization.

NHS Membership

National Honor Society members should show exemplary work in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. The requirements for admittance to National Honor Society are listed below. Students may first apply for admittance to NHS at Foothill during the fall of their Sophomore year. Students who do not meet the admittance requirements are encouraged to continue to build up their work in these four areas and apply either Junior or Senior year.

Scholarship: A minimum 3.75 weighted total GPA is required for consideration. You can find your weighted total GPA in Aeries.

Leadership: Leadership experience is required for consideration. All elected or appointed leadership positions or other positions of responsibility held in school, community, or work activities for grades 9-11 apply toward this requirement. Only those positions in which you were responsible for directing or motivating others may be considered to meet the leadership requirement (elected officer for the student body, class, or club; committee chairperson; team captain; newspaper editor; work area manager; or other community leader).

Service: Service activities are required for consideration. All service activities in which you have participated in grades 9-11 apply toward this requirement. These can be individual or group service projects done either in or out of school. Generally, service activities are those that are done for or on behalf of others (not including immediate family members) for which no compensation (monetary or otherwise) has been given. Note that there is a minimum of 12 hours of service per year in high school required for consideration. (If this is an area of deficiency, here are some places that you may consider volunteering. Make sure you document your volunteer efforts.)
