GATE/STEAM Magnet Program

Magnet is the district's comprehensive program emphasizing science, mathematics and technology. The academic and co-curricular programs are designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity, creativity and risk-taking with the goal of encouraging independence in learning.

MAGNET MISSION

The mission of CT's Magnet Program is to provide an academically challenging
environment in which each student’s educational opportunities are maximized.

The Columbus Tustin Applied Math & Science Program offers a unique learning environment. Magnet students spend the majority of their school day as a cohort in Math-Science and Language Arts-Social Science classes. The remainder of the day is spent in PE and elective classes with Columbus Tustin students.

The Magnet teachers are committed and enthusiastic professionals who have high expectations for themselves and their students. They are experts in their subject areas, trained in GATE instruction, and hold graduate degrees in education.

The Columbus Tustin Magnet Program maintains high academic standards and integrates academic disciplines as part of the Magnet Program Core. Magnet students have the opportunity to participate in a full range of extra-curricular activities and are encouraged to enroll in STEAM, Performing Arts, and/or Foreign Language elective classes. Magnet families understand that the coursework is rigorous. The students develop study skills/study habits today with an eye on future education. Magnet students intend to enroll in high school advanced placement (AP) courses and have college in their sights.

The scope of the students’ education extends beyond the traditional classroom. Magnet students participate in science camps, field trips, and regional and national academic competitions such as VEX Robotics (County, State and National Competitions), Math Competitions, and OCSEF (Orange County and State Science Fair).
