A Message about Benson's Library...
The collection of books in any library is quite diverse. This ensures that these are reading opportunities for everyone. At our school, this means there are books for children in TK through fifth grade. Providing material for students of varying ages results is the reality that not every book is appropriate reading for some children or even some families. We recommend that parents monitor the books their students are bringing home to make sure the content is within their personal standards.
A great resource for determining whether a book is right for your child is, Common Sense Media (www.commonsensemedia.org). Common Sense Media rates books (as well as Movie, television, music and video games) on several factors included within content and message guidelines. The organization provides age-based reviews and even allows parents and children a forum for providing their personal reviews of media.
For questions about the Benson Library, please contact our Librarian/Media technician, Mrs. Nienow.
See you in the Library!
Students and parents can look at our library selection from home. Destiny-TUSD
Destiny also will have fun information like: What are the most popular books in the library and what are the new books in the library.
Students are permitted to check out two or three books each week, depending on who their teacher is. If a student forgets one book on their library day, they check out one less book. If a book is lost, please let the librarian know and she will give the student a bill. If the book is found, the parents have one year to collect a refund.
Looking for a way to celebrate your student's birthday? Look no further than your school library!
The Benson library's Birthday Book Club is a fun way to commemorate your child's birthday while helping our library collection grow. Participation in the program involves a $20.00 donation per book (per child)
Sign up now and during the month of your student's birthday (or half b-day for summer) he/she will get to choose a book from our selection of new, hardcover books that have already been purchased for this purpose.
Included with your participation:
- A special book plate placed inside the front cover of the donated book with your child's name and birthday.
- A photo will be taken of your child with the book he/she chooses and will be displayed in the library. This photo will be sent home with your child at the end of the year to keep and enjoy.
- A pencil and eraser presented to your child during his/her birthday/half/birthday month.
- your child will be the first to check out the book that he/she donated!
This special donation will be added to the Benson Library's permanent collection and will be enjoyed by many students for the years to come.
I love reading and sharing books with the students. I have been a librarian for 9 years. I have the privilege of being selected one of the Top 10 School Heroes by OC Parenting Magazine for 2019. Next school year (2019-2020) I will be a published author and look forward to inspiring the students with my writing journey. I look forward to meeting you in the library
