Congratulations Tracy Dawson!!!
Tustin Unified School District (TUSD) is pleased to announce that Tracy Dawson, Science/AVID teacher at Beckman High School (BHS), has been selected as a 2023 Orange County Teacher of the Year by the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE)
Orange County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Al Mijares was joined by TUSD Superintendent Mark Johnson, TUSD Board President Jonathan Abelove, TUSD Board members Allyson Damikolas and Jonathan Stone, representatives from the Tustin Public Schools Foundation, and OCDE and TUSD administrators for the surprise visit.
“I am so honored to receive this recognition,” said Tracy Dawson. “I am grateful to work at Beckman High School in Tustin Unified School District with such incredible, supportive, dedicated students and staff.”
Tracy is one of six Orange County Teachers of the Year. She was nominated by TUSD for her work in creating positive learning environments, developing meaningful and applicable lessons for her students, and her support of students and staff at BHS. Tracy also leads the AVID program at Beckman High School and started the California Health Occupations Students of America Career Technical Student Organization Chapter at BHS, a leadership opportunity for students who want to pursue a career in the medical field and compete in medical events.
The Orange County Department of Education received 60 district-level nominations. Along with a special apple trophy and additional prizes from SchoolsFirst and the Tustin Public Schools Foundation, Tracy also received a check from the Orange County Teachers of the Year Award Foundation established by the William, Jeff, and Jennifer Gross Family Foundation, Tracy is set to be formally honored at the gala for the 2023 honorees on October 28, 2022, at the Disneyland Hotel.
All six honorees are eligible to be considered now for California Teacher of the Year recognition and perhaps national honors. Congratulations to Tracy!
