Beckman High School is proud to present its third full length musical production, Rodger & Hammerstein’s “State Fair.” The production will be performed in the school’s Performing Arts Center on February 23 & 24, March 2 & 3, all performances at 7pm with a special matinees on Sundays, February 25 & March 5 at 2pm. Tickets are available at the door or at the Beckman HS box office; $15 general admission, $20 preferred seating, and $10 students with ASB. This performance is presented through special arrangement with R & H Theatricals and through grants by the Tustin Public Schools Foundation and the Beckman HS Ed Fund.

Artistic Director Nancy Stück, Drama Director Antonio Moon, and Music Director Jim Kollias, and Art Directors Gigi Manning and Karen Akashi are marshalling the forces of over 300 students at Beckman representing the school’s choir, marching band, orchestra, theater arts, graphic arts, and photography students to produce the show. Beckman’s production of “State Fair” will feature Raymond Vasco as Abel Frake, Isabel Kelso as the Margy Frake, Julia Arguelles as the Melissa Frake, Wilson Lu as the Wayne Frake, Maya Puterbaugh as Emily Arden, and Ryan Puterbaugh as Pat Gilbert. The show is choreographed by Ellen Akashi, Rick Barker sound design, David Shiffer lighting design, and Mark Maslar set design.

State Fair was the only Rodgers & Hammerstein musical written directly for film. Come join the Frake family’s journey to the Iowa State Fair – we bet you $5 you’ll have a great time! STATE FAIR includes the songs Our State Fair, All I Owe Ioway, It Might As Well Be Spring, It’s A Grand Night For Singing, Isn’t It Kinda Fun?, and That’s The Way It Happens.

The Beckman High School Performing Arts Department celebrates its fourteenth year of offering a distinguished program of instrumental music, choir and theater arts. In 2015, Beckman High School was not only designated a California Gold Ribbon School, but also a California Exemplary Arts Program. In 2016, Beckman High School was designated a Grammy Signature School National Semi-Finalist and US News & World Report Gold School. Our instrumental music program, under the direction of Jim Kollias, includes an award winning Marching Band, Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensemble serving over 450 students. These groups have performed coast to coast, from Carnegie Hall to Washington, DC and throughout the state of California. The Award -Winning Choir program under the direction of Nancy Stück, has also performed in Carnegie Hall as well as throughout southern California and continues to receive high ratings at choral festivals as well as consistently place students in local, county, and state honor groups. The Beckman Theater Arts program, under the Direction of Antonio Moon has established a strong program that is focused on the development of each student’s craft to equip them for theatrical success. Beckman’s Theatre Arts students consistently place at the county and state level, and go on to complete at the international level. Beckman’s main stage productions this year include, “The Children’s Hour” and “Pride and Prejudice.”
