Tustin High School Girls Basketball Coach Named CIF Champion of Character
The Tustin Unified School District is pleased to announce that Tustin High School Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Claire Gocke has been awarded the 2022 CIF Southern Section Champion of Character Award. Coach Gocke has been the Varsity Girls Basketball coach for the past 11 years and has received this honor for exemplifying the finest in sportsmanship, character, integrity, and athletics.
“It is a huge honor to be recognized by CIF,” said Coach Gocke. “We have an amazing coaching staff here at Tustin High School, and we work together to create a culture where student athletes feel valued. Integrity is at the heart of everything we do, and this character award signifies the winning environment staff and students represent here at Tustin High School.”
The CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS) created the awards to recognize athletes and coaches who represent the ideals, competition, fair play over victory, leadership, and scrupulous adherence to the rules of sportsmanship that CIF upholds. The rigorous selection process included thousands of possible recipients in the CIF Southern Section.
"Coach Gocke has dramatically changed the Girls' Basketball Program at THS since becoming head coach 2011,” said Girls Athletic Director Melissa Trout. “Her commitment and dedication to her students is even recognized by other schools in Orange County. We are beyond proud that Claire's concern for her students on and off the court is exemplified by all our coaches at Tustin High School."
Coach Gocke thanks Jonathan Blackmore, Chad Smith, Melissa Trout, Ringo Bossenmeyer, Christine Matos, and Michelle Spencer for their consistent mentorship and for exemplifying what it means to be a Champion of Character.
Coach Gocke will be honored at the Champions of Character dinner on Monday, September 26, 2022.
