Highlights from the November 18 Regular Board Meeting
At their regular meeting on November 18, the Board of Education celebrated outgoing Board Member James Laird. Several community partners joined the Board in honoring James and his twenty years of service to TUSD, including the City of Tustin, the Tustin Public Schools Foundation, the Tustin School Management Association and Assemblywoman Cottie Pettrie-Norris's office.
The Board also celebrated our Elementary Girls Volleyball champions. From Peters Canyon, the Board honored Maika Billard, Avary Dorsey, Stephanie Figueroa, Leighton Huynh, Eliana Kim, Lena Kye, Jalen Leang, Camila Lopez, Juliana Mun, Olivia Ngai, Layla Ortiz, Isha Singh, Brooklyn Takeno, Kaysen Turner, and Chloe Van Der Heyden and coaches Tim Larson and Jade Vasconcellos. In addition, the Board honored Tustin High School senior Harshini Mahesh for her fourth Girls Tennis League MVP title. Harshini finishes her high school tennis career with a 212-0 record.
Following this, the Board of Education heard reports from our student board members as they shared highlights from their campus. Presenting student board members included Sahana Shurpalekar (BHS), Morgan Park (FHS), Mia Ayala (Hillview), Melanie Villalobos (LMA) and Samantha Herrera (THS). Harshini Mahesh (THS) shared an update on events from our elementary and middle schools from the dias.
Lastly, Assistant Superintendent Chris Matos, along with Intervention Coordinator Judy Park and Principals Brett D'Errico and Kristin Hartloff shared an overview of the use of data to drive instruction across our middle schools in this month's Bright Spot.
