Highlights from the August 24 Regular Board Meeting

At their regular meeting on August 24, the Board of Education celebrated Fiscal Services Director Joslyn Crawford for her more than 37 years dedicated to TUSD. The Board wished her the very best in her next chapter. The Board also swore in our new student board members. We are excited to welcome Yunji Lee and Jill Bui (BHS), Shelby Bell and Stella Bryant (FHS), Brianna Tirado and Ziel Liddell (Hillview), Hannah Nguyen and Megan Quach (LMA) and Mia Bonahora and Peyton Montha (THS) to their roles.

President Lynn Davis shared the contents of the time capsule left by the students and staff of TUSD in July 1976. In celebration of the nation’s bicentennial, the students and staff of Tustin Unified dedicated the time capsule with the intent that it would be opened in 2026, in honor of the semiquincentennial.  Built in the shape of a schoolhouse by Russell V. Hansen and the students of C.E. Utt Intermediate School, the capsule was finished by Mr. Burns’ woodshop class at Columbus Tustin School.  It was filled with the signature of every student at each of the district’s then 23 schools. Following this, Chief Business Officer Harold Sullins and Senior Director of Maintenance, Operations and Facilities Sal Sanchez reviewed the construction work completed over the summer. As detailed by Mr. Sanchez, projects this summer included both Measure J projects at our phase one schools, Loma Vista, Beswick and Arroyo; and projects outside of Measure J. Projects outside of Measure J included roofing, flooring, and painting at several sites, in addition to replacement of the turf field and refinishing of the track at Tustin High School.
