Highlights from November 17 Regular Board Meeting

At their regular meeting on November 17, the Board of Education celebrated Laurie Jimenez, Coordinator, TUSD Expanded Learning, honored as an Innovative Leadership Awardee by CDE's California Afterschool Network. Mrs. Jimenez was celebrated for the many ways in which she coordinates our afterschool programs with thoughtfulness and intentionality.

In addition, Tustin Memorial Academy (TMA) was celebrated for their California Blue Ribbon Schoolrecognition. TMA is one of only 31 California schools nominated as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2025, and following the US Department of Education’s elimination of the program, awarded the distinction of 2025 California Blue Ribbon School. TMA was celebrated for its especially high levels of academic success for all students. Through the dedication of their teachers, staff, students and families, TMA has created a warm and welcoming community where students are challenged and supported in achieving their personal best.

Following this, the Board heard from our student board members as they shared highlights from their campuses. Presenting students included SafiyaNawaz (BHS), Connor Waibel (FHS), Emily Juarez(Hillview), Carson Carter (LMA) and Indaiah Lowe(THS). Foothill High School's Leah Green shared updates from our elementary and middle schools from the dais.

The Board also received an overview of our Personnel Team and their work to support each and every TUSD employee. Chief Personnel Officer Dr. Maurita De La Torre shared her team's impact across TUSD, from onboarding to professional growth and throughout our staff's many milestones, in this month's Bright Spot.
