Dr. Maggie Villegas Named Deputy Superintendent

Dr. Maggie Villegas has been named Deputy Superintendent, effective July 1, 2026.  Dr. Villegas has been a part of the TUSD Family since 1995.  She previously served as the Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services overseeing elementary education, following serving as director, elementary principal, assistant principal and teacher.

“I am deeply honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve Tustin Unified in this new role,” shared Dr. Villegas.  “Throughout my years in TUSD, I have been fortunate to work alongside exceptional educators, leaders, staff, students, and families who inspire me every day. Tustin Unified is a very special place, and I am excited to continue serving our remarkable community.”

Superintendent Mark Johnson, Ed.D. shared, “For years, Dr. Villegas has been an exemplary leader in our district.  We are excited for her to take on this new role in serving our students, staff and families as we work toward improved efficiencies and program effectiveness.”

Dr. Villegas earned her doctoral degree in educational leadership from the American College of Education, her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from California State University, Fullerton, and her bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of California, San Diego.  She was honored by the Association of California School Administrators, Region 17 as Elementary Principal of the Year and presented with the Tracey Gaffey Mentorship Award, recognizing her commitment to the mentorship of school leaders.
