Instructional Minutes/Bell Schedule
Next school year instructional minutes will be extended to 323 minutes per day for students in grades 1-3 to match that of grades 4-5. This was ratified by the teachers’ union and will be in effect for the 2016-17 school year. The bell schedule for next year will be as follows:
Kindergarten Early Birds: 8:05- 11:28
Kindergarten Later Gators: 10:10-1:28
Grades 1-5: 8:00-2:23 (M, Tu, Th, F)
Grades 1-5: 8:00-1:09 (Wed) EVERY WEDNESDAY IS AN EARLY OUT DAY
In addition to the increase of instructional minutes, there will be class size reduction in both 1st and 2nd grades, with the maximum class size being 26 students. The target enrollment for 1st and 2nd grade is 24 students.
Class sizes in grades 3-5 will remain at a target of 32 students per class. For planning purposes, all 3-5 grade teachers are given planning days (2 per year) to accommodate their larger class sizes. In addition, students receive one hour per week of music instruction by district specialists, which gives classroom teachers time to plan and collaborate with their grade level colleagues each week.
Kindergarten students will have the opportunity to meet their teachers and tour our school on Thursday, August 25th at 3:30 p.m. Class lists will be posted at that time.
Back to School Night
Class lists for grades 1-5 will be posted on Thursday, August 25th at 4:30 p.m. Teachers will meet and greet families in the courtyard outside the MPR at 5:00 p.m. Back to School Night presentations will be held in classrooms on Thursday, August 25th from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Parents are welcome to bring class donations at that time and sign up for Fall Conferences as well. Holding Back to School Night prior to the first day of school proved helpful this year and we are happy to continue with this new tradition. Note: August 25 is the only Back to School Night presentation offered.
