Ladera Named 2014 California Distinguished School

Ladera Named as Honor Roll School
Ladera Elementary has been selected as a 2013 Honor Roll school by the California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) Foundation. Ladera has been recognized for demonstrating consistent high student academic achievement. The Honor Roll schools are consistently raising student achievement and have made significant progress toward closing the achievement gap among all students. They are recognized not only for their accomplishments, but so that other schools can learn and replicate the best practices of Honor Roll schools.  Click HERE for more information.

Important Upcoming Dates

Welcome Back Sign Cropped
Monday, Aug. 31st:
-Before school begins, come meet your Kindergartener's teacher at our Kinder "Handshake or a Hug" welcome from 8:30-9:00am. A parking variance is available during this time (street parking is allowed on Rawlings Way). 
-Also on August 31st, join us for the annual Welcome Back Social from 4:00-5:00pm in the Ladera quad. Class lists will be posted and teachers will be present. Popsicles will be provided by the PTO! And a parking variance has been issued from 3:00-6:00pm. For those families who cannot make the Social, class lists will be posted on the locked school gates after the event.
Tuesday, Sept. 1st:
-First Day of SchoolPlease click HERE for the bell schedule. The PTO will provide coffee & donuts for parents at 8:30am in the MPR. A parking variance will be available until 3:00pm. 
Thursday, Sept. 3rd: 
-Back to School Night from 5:00-7:00pm, for PARENTS ONLY. The evening will begin in the MPR with a Welcome Back greeting from Dr. Harrison, introduction of teaching staff and the PTO Board, followed by two half-hour sessions in your child(ren)'s classroom to hear what your teacher has planned for the upcoming school year. Pre-K SDC will be starting at 4:30pm in the MPR; K-5 will start at 5:00pm in the MPR. A parking variance will be issued for this event. In addition, CDC will be offering childcare for $10 per child (includes pizza for dinner). If you wish to utilize this childcare option, please contact Jon Dominguez at 714-505-8098.

as Ladera's new Principal!

Dr. Harrison comes from the Ontario-Montclair School District where she was a director in curriculum and instruction, overseeing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) and Gifted and Talented Education (GATE). She also served four years as principal of Edison Academy, a transitional kindergarten through eighth-grade GATE magnet school in Ontario. 


Dr. Harrison has worked in public education for 16 years.  She began her career as an elementary teacher in the Whittier City School District.  She then taught math and served as a middle/high school activities director in the Bellflower Unified School District.  In 2002, she joined the Orange Unified School District and worked as an elementary school math specialist/teacher, summer school principal, elementary assistant principal and high school assistant principal.

Dr. Harrison has a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from California State University, Long Beach; a master’s degree in education administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills; and a doctorate in education (K-12 leadership) from the University of Southern California.

Drop Off & Pick Up at Back GateNo U-turn sign
For those families who drop off and pick up at the back gate, please be aware that it is illegal and unsafe to make a u-turn in this area. Drivers should proceed up Township and make a u-turn at the very top of the street to avoid any danger to pedestrians. Please refer to "Parking Lot/Back Gate Safety" guidelines. Thank you for your adherence to the traffic rules.
