TUSD Students Have "Astounding" Minds

Over 200 elementary and middle school students in the Tustin Unified School District will be participating in the 25th annual “Astounding Inventions” competition on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Irvine Valley College, 5500 Irvine Center Drive. The competition is presented by the Orange County Office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP and the Irvine Valley College Foundation.

The event will feature hand-made inventions by school children from elementary and middle schools in the Tustin and Irvine unified school districts. The fair promotes mathematics and science education in grades kindergarten through eighth.

Additionally, Beckman High School’s award-winning Robotics Team will be at the event demonstrating their innovative projects. Many of the Beckman students on the Robotics Team previously participated in the “Astounding Inventions” competition in elementary and middle school.

Public viewing of the student inventions will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the awards ceremony begins at 1 p.m. in the IVC Hart Gymnasium. Admission and parking are free.

In past years, several Tustin Unified student inventors have been selected to appear on network TV shows, including “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”
