TUSD Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for
Hewes Middle School Activity Center

The Tustin Unified School District is holding a groundbreaking ceremony for Hewes Middle School’s new Activity Center at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14.

The Hewes Activity Center is approximately 13,000 square feet and will be located near the corner of Foothill Blvd. and Hewes Ave. It will include a lobby, gymnasium/multipurpose area, sports flooring, retractable bleachers, storage space, restrooms, performance area, lighting and two adjoining classrooms.

Additionally, the Hewes PTA has funded 40 new computers for the new computer lab in the Activity Center.

The project has been designed to provide optimal community access and close proximity to existing locker room facilities, and will be situated in an area that calls for minimal disruption to heavily used recreational areas on campus.

NTD Architecture is the design firm and the new Activity Center will be built by Balfour Beatty Construction. It is scheduled to be completed by winter 2012.

The project will cost approximately $6.5 million and is being funded through the Measure L campus modernization program.
