TUSD Parents and Students Step Up for "Walk to School Day"

Parents and students at elementary schools throughout the Tustin Unified School District will step forward and participate in the International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Walk to School Day encourages adults and children to walk to school together. The 14th annual event is designed to raise awareness about walking as a form of exercise, reduce traffic congestion and pollution, and focus on teaching children safe walking skills and routes.

The Tustin Police Department and W.R. Nelson Elementary School are partnering in the Safe Kids Walk this Way pedestrian safety program and will participate in Walk to School Day. Police officers and parents will walk to school with Nelson students.

Over three million people from 40 countries around the world are expected to participate in the event, including the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Great Britain, India, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain and others.
For more information, contact your local TUSD elementary school or visit the National Center for Safe Routes to School’s website: www.walktoschool.org.
