Which school should my
child attend? |

Assigned
neighborhood attendance areas are determined by street name and number.
About 90 percent of our students attend their neighborhood school. We do
have an open enrollment policy that allows students to apply to attend a
school other than their assigned school if there is space available.

2.
What are school
starting and ending times? |

A
copy of the bell schedule may be picked up at the school office or you may
call the school. The variance in starting and ending times is most often
determined by bus schedules.

3.
Can I
enroll in a school other than my assigned school? |

The district has an open
enrollment policy that allows students to apply to attend a school other
than their assigned school. Approvals are for one year and are reviewed
each year. Transfer applications will be available at
each school, the District Office, and this website at the beginning of the
calendar year and submitted for consideration on the dates established. Each school is required to
serve the students who live within its attendance boundaries before
accepting students outside the boundaries. More information,
procedures, and criteria are available from Student Services.
Open enrollment is
conducted based on "space availability". The
order is determined by drawing.
Transportation is not
provided. |

4.
Does
Tustin Unified have specific attendance boundaries for each school? |

Yes.
The District believes in the neighborhood school concept. Each school has
defined attendance boundaries in order to ensure there is enough room for
the students living in the area where the school is located.

5.
When
do the middle and high schools register for classes? |

|
Registration
for classes is typically completed during the two weeks prior to the
opening day of school. Contact the high school for specific dates and/or
appointments.

6.
I
have a student arriving from outside the U.S. What documents will
the District need? |

|
The
District requires no documents. INS may require I-20 and may be contacted
for specific requirements. I-20's are only issued to parents,
grandparents, and aunts or uncles of TUSD students.
English language testing is
required by California law for each student if a language other than
English is spoken in the home.

7.
Which school is your best
school? |

That
is a very difficult question. By the word "best" some people
mean highest test scores, others mean the most awards won by a school's
athletic teams or drama departments or musical groups. Still others are
interested in the newest schools. For most of Tustin Unified's parents,
the best school is the school where their children attend.

8.
How long is the
student instructional day? |

The
number of instructional minutes are set by the State of California. For
example kindergarten requires 36,000 instructional minutes annually. All
schools have 180 days of instruction per year. The average daily minutes
