TUSD Holds "Every 15 Minutes" Program at Foothill High
The Tustin Unified School
District is holding the “Every 15 Minutes” program at
Foothill High School on Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday,
April 7. It is the sixth time the program is being held
at Foothill High.
“Every 15 Minutes” is a two-day program involving high school juniors and seniors, which challenges them to think about drinking, driving, personal safety, and the responsibility of making mature decisions and the impact their decisions have on family, friends and others. On Wednesday, school and law enforcement officials will re-enact a traffic collision caused by a drunken driver to give students a better understanding of the dangers of drinking and driving. In addition, over 20 students will be pulled out of class, one every 15 minutes, as mock drunken-driving fatalities, representing real accidents that occur every 15 minutes. The students will visit Western Medical Center, Harbor Justice Center and Pacific View Mortuary. They will also spend the night at a chaperoned retreat and, at an assembly on Thursday, will share what they learned with the school. The program is being held in cooperation with the California Highway Patrol, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, California Office of Traffic Safety and other local groups. |
