TUSD Holds "Every 15 Minutes" Program at Beckman High
The Tustin Unified School
District is holding the “Every 15 Minutes” program at
Beckman High School today and tomorrow (March 22 and
23). It is the third time the program is being held at
Beckman High.
“Every 15 Minutes” is a two-day program involving high school juniors and seniors, which challenges them to think about drinking, driving, personal safety, and the responsibility of making mature decisions and the impact their decisions have on family, friends and others. This morning, school and law enforcement officials re-enacted a traffic collision caused by a drunken driver to give students a better understanding of the dangers of drinking and driving. In addition, nearly 30 students were pulled out of class, one every 15 minutes, as mock drunken-driving fatalities, representing real accidents that occur every 15 minutes. The students will visit the Irvine Police Department, Harbor Justice Center and Pacific View Mortuary. They will also spend the night at a chaperoned retreat and, at an assembly on Wednesday, will share what they learned with the school. The program is being held in cooperation with the Irvine Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Orange County Fire Authority, California Office of Traffic Safety and other local groups. |
