TUSD Welcomes Students
and Opens New School on September 1

 Students in the Tustin Unified School District will return to school on Wednesday, Sept. 1.

Enrollment projections indicate that the District will welcome approximately 22,800 students – the largest enrollment in TUSD history.

“This year we will continue to focus on student achievement, Early College Program, facilities, high-quality employees, financial responsibility, parent/community partnerships, Response to Instruction (RtI) and technology,” Supt. Richard Bray said.

The new Orchard Hills School will open on Sept. 1. The school will welcome about 475 students in grades five and six for the 2010-11 school year. Additional grades will be added in succeeding years. The state-of-the-art school features a multipurpose room, media center, cafeteria, P.E. buildings, basketball courts, a track, baseball field, soccer field and gymnasium.

Administrative changes for the 2010-11 school year include:

Principalships: Nancy Jenkins, Guin Foss and Estock elementary schools; Cindy Agopian, Hicks Canyon Elementary School; Ryan Bollenbach, Ladera and Veeh elementary schools; Will Neddersen, Red Hill Elementary School; Wendy Hudson, Tustin Memorial Academy; Rich Montgomery, Orchard Hills School; Christine Matos, Currie Middle School; Michelle Boudreaux, Hewes Middle School; Tracey Vander Hayden, Pioneer Middle School; and Tom Giebe, Utt Middle School.

New or newly-assigned assistant principals are Josh Porter, Columbus Tustin Middle School; Christa Glembocki, Utt Middle School; Joe Garcia, Beckman High School; Donald Rafter, Foothill High School; and Eric Mooney, Tustin High School.

Special dates and holidays during the 2010-11 school year include: Labor Day, Sept. 6; Veterans’ Day, Nov. 11; non-student, non-teacher day, Nov. 12; Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25; local holiday, Nov. 26; winter recess, Dec. 20 through 31; Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 17; Lincoln Day, Feb. 18; Washington Day, Feb. 21; spring recess, April 18-22; local holiday, April 25; and Memorial Day, May 30.

Additionally, there will be seven furlough days (district/schools closed) during the school year: Nov.1, Nov. 22 through 24; Jan. 28, May 27 and June 10. The last day of school will be June 16 for grades K-12.
