Irvine Valley College Receives
TUSD 2010 Community Service Award

Irvine Valley College has received the Tustin Unified School District 2010 Community Service Award. The award was presented at the 35th annual “Friends of Tustin Schools” Community Recognition Dinner, sponsored by the Tustin School Management Association (TSMA) and PTA/PTO Coordinating Council. IVC President Dr. Glenn Roquemore accepted the award for the college.

“IVC is an outstanding partner with Tustin Unified and its impact upon our students exceeds all expectations,” said TSMA President Sean Diaz, who is assistant principal at Beckman High School. “The college has supported our schools and programs, and collaborated with teachers, administrators and staff on behalf of the community and benefit of our students.”

For the past 20 years, TUSD elementary and middle school students have participated in the college’s annual Astounding Inventions competition which promotes mathematics and science education.

Beckman and Tustin high school students participate in IVC’s Early College Program. Students take college-level courses with the goal of receiving an AA degree upon graduation from high school. The program is in its third year and over 75 students have taken the courses.

Additionally, TUSD high school students have been able to meet with IVC counselors, tour the campus and get access to the library and media resource centers at the college.
