Science Magnet Program The Tustin Unified School District’s Applied Math and Science Magnet Program at Columbus Tustin Middle School is holding an informational meeting for parents interested in enrolling their children in the program for the 2010-11 school year. The comprehensive program emphases science, mathematics and technology for sixth through eighth-grade students. The parent information night and tour will be conducted on Wednesday, March 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Columbus Tustin School, 17952 Beneta Way. Parents will receive an overview of the program, meet Magnet Program teachers and visit classrooms. The Columbus Tustin Math and Science Magnet Program is entering its 11th year. The program emphasizes the interrelationships among math, science, language arts and social science; problem-solving techniques and investigative skills; hands-on experience with current technological applications; and both independent and team research projects. Magnet students use laptop computers, modern laboratory facilities and other technological learning tools, and participate in various extracurricular activities, field trips and academic competitions, such as the Academic Pentathlon and Orange County Science Fair. Enrollment is limited and admission is selective based on application responses, grades, test scores and teacher recommendations.
