Foothill Choir Invited to Heritage Festival of Gold in Chicago

Foothill High School's Madrigal Singers and Advanced Treble Choir have been invited to perform at the Heritage Festival of Gold in Orchestra Hall in Chicago, home of the Chicago Symphony.

Through a very rigorous audition process, the Foothill choirs, under the direction of Chelsea Dehn, were selected to sing at the national festival hosted by the city of Chicago. The students are scheduled to depart on Friday, March 19 and will take part in rehearsals, clinics with experts in the field, honor choir and performances over the course of five days.

The nation's finest conductors will be adjudicating the choirs involved, all of which will be competing for a spot in the final "encore" concert. Only the highest scoring ensemble will be given the honor to perform in Chicago's famous Orchestra Hall on the last evening of the event.

"The choirs have been rehearsing diligently over the last month in preparation for their performance" Dehn said.

Besides rehearsals, performances and awards ceremonies, Foothill students will also tour the Art Institute of Chicago as well as attend the musical, "Ragtime."

"The trip promises to be a rewarding experience, and this festival is sure to be both challenging and unforgettable," Dehn said.

The Foothill choirs will perform a Farewell Concert on Thursday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 800 N. Cambridge St., in Orange. The concert is free and open to the public.
