Grade Levels and Boundaries
for the Opening of Orchard Hills School

At its Study Session/Board Meeting on January 25, 2010, the Tustin Unified School District Board of Education approved staff recommendations for the grade levels/boundaries for the 2010-11 opening of Orchard Hills School.  Ultimately, the school will serve grades K-8, however, until the Orchard Hills Development homes are built and occupied, the school will serve upper elementary and middle school grades.

· Orchard Hills School will open for the 2010-11 school year with grades five and six.
  Sixth Grade:
  v

Change middle school boundaries to reflect the Hicks Canyon Elementary School attendance area (Northpark/Northpark Square) feeding into Orchard Hills School beginning with the sixth-grade class of 2010-11.

  v

Change middle school boundaries to reflect the Myford Elementary School attendance area north of Champion Way (West Irvine) feeding into Orchard Hills School beginning with the sixth-grade class of 2010-11.

· Fifth Grade:
v Change elementary school boundaries to reflect fifth graders from the Hicks Canyon Elementary School attendance area attending Orchard Hills School beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
v Change elementary school boundaries to reflect fifth graders from the Myford Elementary School attendance area north of Champion Way to attend Orchard Hills School beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
· Orchard Hills School will add a seventh-grade class in 2011-12 and an eighth-grade class in 2012-13.
· On a space-available basis (intradistrict transfer):
v Fifth and sixth graders from Myford Elementary School attendance area south of Champion Way may attend Orchard Hills School (first priority).
v Fifth and sixth graders from other Pioneer Middle School feeder school areas (Ladera, Peters Canyon, and Tustin Ranch elementary schools) may attend Orchard Hills School (second priority).
v Once a transfer student is accepted at Orchard Hills School, the student may attend Orchard Hills School through the eighth grade.
·

The parent of a fifth grader enrolling in the sixth grade the following fall may choose to have that child attend Pioneer Middle School if either:

v

that child has a sibling already enrolled at Pioneer Middle School who will remain concurrently enrolled the next fall at Pioneer Middle School with the new sixth grader;

                                                                        or

v

that child has a sibling enrolling in a middle school grade not offered at Orchard Hills School who would be enrolling the next fall at Pioneer Middle School with the new sixth grader.

·

On a space-available basis, Myford Elementary School fifth-grade students who live north of Champion Way will have first priority to stay at Myford Elementary School for fifth grade.
