Call or email Linda McCord at 714-734-1875 or firstname.lastname@example.org before 8:30 the morning of an absence with the reason for the absence. A phone call or written note from a parent/guardian must be at the office prior to readmission to classes. Notes must include date(s) and reason(s) for absence. If the child’s parent or guardian does not phone or write a note, the absence will be considered Unexcused/Truant. The Myford office staff may attempt to contact parent/guardian to confirm unexcused absences.
EXCUSED/UNEXCUSED ABSENCES AND TARDIES
The only excused absences/tardies are for the child's illness, medical appointments, death in the immediate family, mandatory court appearances, or religous holiday. All other reasons are considered Unexcused/Truants.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE REVIEW BOARD (S.A.R.B.)
In 1974, the Legislature enacted Education Code (EC) Section 48320 to enhance the enforcement of compulsory education laws and to divert students with school attendance or behavior problems from the juvenile justice system until all available resources have been exhausted. Although the goal is to keep students in school and provide them with a meaningful educational experience, SARBs do have the power to refer students & their parents or guardians to court.
A student is considered tardy when he or she has not entered the gates before the bell rings. Students arriving to school after the school bell has rung must report to the office prior to reporting to class. Tardies can be calculated for disciplinary purposes. If a student arrives to school late by 30 minutes or more without a valid excuse, that student is considered Truant. If a child leaves school early by 30 minutes or more without a valid excuse, that student is considered Truant.
