NAEP

National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) has been in existence since 1969. Each year, the Tustin Unified School District, working in cooperation with the California and U.S. Departments of Education, administers the main NAEP assessments to grade 4, 8, and 12 students in randomly-selected schools. Long-term trend assessments can also be given to students aged 9, 13, or 17 years at randomly selected schools. NAEP is the only measure of student achievement in the United States that allows the comparison of students in California with performance of students across the nation or in other states. To ensure confidentiality, NAEP does not record individual student results, and instead allows for state-to-state comparisons of student achievement.
