Hicks
Canyon Elementary School, located at 3817 Viewpark, opened in August
2004. Hicks Canyon is the Tustin Unified School District's second
elementary school to be built in Irvine. The new school serves the
communities of Northpark and Northpark Square.
Hicks
Canyon is similar in architecture and design to Ladera, Myford,
Peters Canyon and Tustin Ranch elementary schools, and serves over
900 students in grades kindergarten through fourth, in the 2010-11
school year.
The
state-of-the-art school is located on a 15-acre site at 3817 Viewpark. The
construction cost of the project is $12.5 million.
The school
mascot is the "Huskies" and school colors are red, white and blue.
Hicks
Canyon School’s name comes from the nearby regional park and nature trail.
Hicks Canyon was named after James Coleman Hickey, a local stablekeeper
who raised bees in the canyon area during the late 1800s.
